1. What This Policy Covers
Half Painted ("the Site," "I," "me," "my") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information I collect when you visit halfpainted.com, why I collect it, and what I do with it. I keep this as short and human-readable as possible. No legalese for the sake of legalese.
2. Information I Collect
Comments: When you leave a comment on a post, I collect the name you enter, your email address (never shown publicly), and your IP address for spam detection. Akismet helps me filter spam — you can read their privacy policy here: automattic.com/privacy.
Email Newsletter: If you subscribe to the Half Painted newsletter, I collect your name and email address through ConvertKit (or whichever provider I'm using at the time). I never buy email lists, and I never sell yours. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. If you leave, I won't take it personally. Mostly.
Analytics: I use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use this site — what posts get read, how long people stay, that kind of thing. It collects anonymized data like your general location, device type, and browser. No personally identifying details. You can read Google's privacy policy here.
Cookies: Like every website on the planet, this one uses cookies. Some are essential for the site to work; others help with analytics or allow affiliate links to track properly. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some site features may get cranky.
Affiliate Links: Posts on Half Painted occasionally contain affiliate links (meaning I earn a small commission if you buy something through them, at no extra cost to you). Those links use cookies to track purchases back to my site. I only link to things I've actually used or would genuinely recommend to a friend.
3. Information I Don't Collect
I don't collect or store payment information, social security numbers, your firstborn's middle name, or anything else that sensitive. If you buy something through an affiliate link, that transaction happens entirely on the retailer's site.
4. Who I Share Data With
Nobody willingly. The exceptions: Google Analytics (see above), my email provider (to send newsletters), and spam detection services (for comments). If I'm legally required to share information, I will — but honestly, I'd rather spend my energy arguing about paint color.
5. Your Rights
If you're in the EU or certain other jurisdictions, you have rights under GDPR or similar laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data I hold about you, and the right to object to data processing. Email me at [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy Question" and I'll handle it.
If you have a privacy concern about a California resident, California law may also give you specific rights.
6. Third-Party Content
Some posts embed content from other sites (like Instagram photos or YouTube videos). Those sites have their own privacy policies, and I have zero control over what they do. Click through at your own discretion.
7. Changes to This Policy
When I update this page, I'll change the "Last Updated" date above. Major changes get mentioned in a newsletter. Minor changes (typo fixes, rephrasing) don't. This site is always under construction. So is this policy.
